Acquitting Tarek Al-Amer of Disdaining the Shiite Sect

2015-05-30 - 2:19 am

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): A Bahraini court acquitted today (Wednesday, May 27, 2015) the author Tarek Al-Amer, who wrote an article in Al-Bilad newspaper (on April 22, 2014) through which he insulted the rituals of the Shiite sect, that constitutes the majority of Bahrainis.

The Public Prosecution charged Tarek Al-Amer for publicly assaulting one of the recognized religious sects and mocking its rituals, insulting a figure who is praised among a sect- by a written statement-, inciting mockery against a group of people in a way that leads to disrupting the general security, causing discord in the community and undermining national unity.

This is not the first time the judicial and executive bodies disregard those who insult Shiites, who are being punished for leading mass popular protests aiming at putting an end to the Al Khalifa control over the power.
