Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's First Minor Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Ibrahim Al-Jafen and Mohammad Makki as secretariat, sentenced on Tuesday (January 5, 2016) the former colonel in the Ministry of Interior Adel Flaifel and others to 3 years in prison over fraud and embezzling more two million BD in a contract with two investors, whom he tricked by selling them a piece of land not owned by him.

The Public Prosecution accused Flaifel and the second and third suspects of obtaining the victims' money with fraud.

It is noteworthy that sentences against Adel Flaifel reached 16 years in prison; 10 years over possession of weapons, 3 years over a fraud case, in addition to the sentence issued during yesterday's hearing. However, theses sentences didn't reach the final stage, i.e the court of cassation.

The details of the case say that the two victims had filed a complaint to the police, reporting that they were searching for a piece of land in order to construct a shopping mall, a guide had informed them about this property which he claimed was owned by Adel Flaifel. They contacted him and told him about the purchase request. Thus, he welcomed this offer and presented documents claiming to prove his ownership of the land, and demanded more than 2 million dinars.

After they paid all the amount, they went to finish the documentation process but it didn't take place. Days later, they demanded the contract form him but he was not answering. When they raised doubts about the matter, they inquired about the land and were shocked to discover that it was not owned by Flaifel and was mortgaged. Therefore, they realized that they were victims of a scam.
