Bahraini Authorities Raid Sanabes to Vandalize Husseini "Food Stands"

2016-03-02 - 1:06 am

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini security authorities vandalized a number of Husseini "free food stands" in the Sanabes area, according to eyewitnesses.

This campaign comes following an address delivered by the Interior Minister, in which he threatened the Shia community in Bahrain to take strict measures regarding their religious activities and events.

The authorities had taken similar steps a few days ago in the Bahraini capital Manama and the area of Ras Rumman. The Shiites, who make up the majority of the population in Bahrain, suffer from discrimination and sectarian persecution practiced by the Sunni ruling Al Khalifa family.

Since 2011, the authorities launched a widespread campaign, which was deemed the most brutal campaign against the Shiite majority since decades, over the nation-wide protests that Bahrain witnessed during what was described as the Arab Spring. The crackdown on these popular protests led to over 150 martyrs, hundreds of injuries, and more than 4,000 political prisoners.
