2016-03-22 - 1:21 am

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Ministry of Labour stated that it recorded 7,077 cases of arbitrary dismissals since 2010 until 2015 in the Bahraini private sector.

According to the local Al-Ayyam newspaper, owned by the media advisor to the king, the ministry explained in a report raised to the parliament that in the last year (2015), there has been a decline in arbitrary dismissals which decreased to 399 cases only, after it reached 937 in 2014. Based on the ministry's statistics, 769 cases were recorded in 2010. However, in 2011 there was a hike in arbitrary dismissals which reached 2,690 cases.

As for 2012, 1074 cases were documented, but the figure increased to 1208 in 2013. This comes as the parliament is to vote in its next session on a bill to add the "dismissed over disciplinary reasons" to the list of those who have the right to receive unemployment benefits, as the current law prohibits this group from receiving benefits which are granted to those arbitrarily dismissed from their jobs.
