Bahrain Mirror: The Deputy Chairman of Bahrain's Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazza, said that the unit received 13 complaints in May, which included claims of alleged torture, maltreatment, and excessive use of force committed by public security service members. The SIU has taken action by investigating all the complaints, he added.

In a statement issued on Monday (June 6, 2016), Al-Hazza said: "In the framework of the circulated cases, the SIU listened in the past month to the testimonies of 40 victims and witnesses in diverse cases and questioned 58 suspects from the public security forces. The unit referred three of the complainants to the unit's forensic doctor to have them examined and to report any injury if found, and its cause, date and manner. It also referred two of the complainants to the unit's psychiatrist to be examined and determine whether they suffered from any psychological effects."

"The SIU concluded its investigations into one of the cases received from the Ombudsman Office which included allegations made by an inmate stating that he was attacked and beaten by a policeman while he was serving his sentence in the Reform and Rehabilitation Center. The SIU ordered referring the policeman to the Fifth Minor Criminal Court and demanded penalizing him as per the provisions of clauses 75/4, 107/1, 339/1 and 2 of the Penal Code. The court decided to look into the case during its hearing to be held on June 13," the Deputy Chairman of the SIU, Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazza further stated.
