Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Public Prosecution announced on Wednesday (September 21, 2016) that it referred 17 suspects to court over charges of "establishing a terrorist group", and "attempted murder of a police officer".

The Prosecution claimed that "it received information from the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations about the formation of a terrorist group that plotted targeting and killing security service officers. To implement this plan, firearms were provided to be used in the crime, as one of the group members lured one of the officers into the Sitra area on May 22, 2016, while another member, who has received military training for the use of weapons and explosives, opened fire on the victim upon his arrival on the crime scene."

The prosecution based its investigations on the victim's testimony and confessions of the accused suspects.

Human rights organizations confirm that Bahrain is resorting to torture to extract confessions from defendants and use them for their conviction in court.
