Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain was ranked 132 on the 2016 Global Peace Index (GPI) report issued by the Institute for Economic and Peace (IEP) on Wednesday (September 21, 2016).

Bahrain scored "Low" rate, and thus became the only Gulf country to receive such a classification.

According to the report, the Bahraini rank is due to involving in the regional conflicts and its increasing military spending.

"Despite its size, Bahrain has fully participated in both the Yemen and Syria campaigns, which has in turn resulted in an uptick in its military spending and driven its significant score deterioration", the GPI report stated.

The index gauges global peace using three broad themes: the level of safety and security in society, the extent of domestic and international conflict and the degree of militarization.

"Besides intervening abroad however, governments are now having to respond to the growing domestic threat posed by ISIL as demonstrated by the poorer terrorism scores for Saudi Arabia, Libya, Tunisia and Egypt. The latter two experienced a plunge in foreign arrivals following terrorist attacks on tourist targets", the report added.

Meanwhile, both Qatar and Kuwait scored "Very High" rate on the GPI, while the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman got a "High"rate.
