Local Newspaper: Postal Service Won’t Deliver Mail to Diraz Believing it’s “An Unsafe Area”

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's al-Wasat newspaper reported that a number of Diraz residents complained that the postal staff were not delivering their mail to their houses.

It also added that after some residents asked for an explanation, they were surprised to know that the reason is because their houses are in "an unsafe area", and therefore they had to go to the post office building to receive their letters in person.

The security forces impose a severe siege on the town of Diraz, resided by more than 30 thousand residents. The siege was imposed due to the open protest staged outside the house of Shiite majority spiritual leader, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, where thousands of protesters gather denouncing the revocation of his citizenship.

Authorities attempt to follow "collective punishment" procedures in its crackdown on protests and demonstrations, while rights activists consider the Diraz Siege a "collective punishment" of another kind.

Since the Diraz siege was imposed, the authorities have banned the entry of anyone not living in the town. The siege also caused the halt of Friday prayers in the biggest Shiite mosque for months now, since the Friday Imam and prayers are banned from entering Diraz.
