Bahrain Mirror: The High Appeals Court upheld a first degree ruling in favor of a 5-year imprisonment against 8 defendants charged of installing bomb-like bodies.

The Fourth High Criminal Court   ruled a 5-year imprisonment sentence against 8 defendants accused of installing a bomb-like body in Salmabad, on the main road, amongst a group of tires that they had lit on fire. The court ordered the confiscation of these bodies.

The Public Prosecution stated that on November 23, 2015, the defendants placed, along with others, a bomb-like body on the main road, in a bid to conduct a terrorist act. They also deliberately lit fire in vehicles, and the fire put the lives of people, public and private money in danger, the Prosecution claimed, adding that they [the defendants] had participated in an assembly in which they used violence to reach the goal they sought.

Since 2012, the mischief and vandalism cases that are known to be dealt with under the law of Assembly and vandalism, were referred to the Law on Terrorism. These cases were given a terrorist approach, like attempt of murdering a police officer, hindering the provisions of law, and putting the lives of people and their properties in danger, in a framework of intensifying the punishment against protesters and activists.
