Appeal Court Upholds Acquittal of Officer & 4 Policemen of Charges over "Torturing Detainees to Extract Confessions"

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini High Appeal Court upheld a first degree court verdict, acquitting a police officer and four policemen from the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of charges regarding torture of detainees to extract confessions in a drug-related case.

The five defendants were accused of torturing detainees held over drug-related cases by brutally beating them to coerce them into giving confessions about a certain incident.

The Public Prosecution accused the five defendants of intentionally inflicting excruciating pain on the victims, causing injuries, for the purpose of extracting confessions and information regarding an incident, and referred them to court.
