Bahrain Mirror: A Kuwaiti appeals court overturned (Thursday December 22, 2016) a first instance verdict ruling the innocence of former Kuwaiti Member of Parliament, and prominent human rights activist, Dr. Abdulhameed Dashti. Dashti was charged with insulting Saudi Arabia, and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The total number of sentences issued against Dashti become 42 years and 6 months, in cases of "freedom of opinion", as he was accused of insulting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This came after he criticized both countries' violations against human rights, and denounced the Saudi-led Arab coalition war against Yemen.

Through his official twitter account, Dashti said, "Would any sane person believe that I am sentenced to 42 years and 6 months in prison just for expressing my opinion, where is the democracy and judiciary you talk about?"

Dashti had posted a video on his YouTube channel, in which he criticized the court for annulling his innocence ruling, dubbing the "head of that department" "inefficient" for that position.
