Bahrain Mirror: The government was discreet regarding a parliamentary proposal to amend an article in the "Labor Law" in the civil sector, by virtue of which the company that has more than 50 workers, is obliged to prepare a list of wage and rank scale. This scale was also proposed to be adopted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development. However, with the government being discreet, it led to the representatives withdrawing their proposal.

According to the Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs at the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Mohammad Ansari, "Obliging companies to set a wage scale might cause a problematic to small companies, because employment is mainly non-Bahraini. Putting this scale requires having into consideration that it should be imposed on Bahrainis and Foreigners, and it would therefore have large financial burdens on the private sector."

Moreover, Ansari added, "This will leave the situation vague and unclear to the worker himself. We believe it is better that the situation is left between the worker and the employer, depending on the contract sealed between them".
