Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Court of Appeal amended a verdict against two appellants, while refused an appeal by a third defendant who filed his appeal after the due date.

The court ruled that the two appellants, whose appeals were accepted, would be sentenced to 3 years in prison instead of 5, in a case accusing 11 defendants of burning tires and taking part in "illegal" assembly.

On this level, the Appeals Court said that given the circumstances of the case, it amended the prison verdict against the two appellants from 5 years to 3 years in prison, while supporting any other rulings by the verdict. The third defendant's appeal was not accepted since it was filed after the legal due date.

The First Instance Court had ruled a 5-year-prison verdict against the first defendant, with a 100 dinars fine, while confiscating seized belongings.

The Public Prosecution had accused the defendants (ages between 15 and 21 years old) of deliberately burning tires with other unknown individuals, thus endangering people's lives. They were also accused of taking part in an illegal assembly.

Since 2012, riot cases that go under the demonstrations and riot section of the penal code were adapted to apply to the terrorism law, if there were "terrorist" purposes behind them, such as attempted murder of a police officer, violating the provisions of law and endangering the lives of people and their properties, within the regime's framework of harshening penalties against protesters and activists.
