One-Year Jail Term Handed to 3 Defendants over Acquiring Unlicensed Weapons

Bahrain Mirror: The First High Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, with the membership of two judges, Dia' Huraidi and Jamal Awad, and the Secretariat of Abdullah Mohammed Hassan, sentenced 3 defendants to 1 year in prison over acquiring arms and ammunitions, fined each of them 200 BD and ordered the confiscation of seized arms and ammunitions.

The court convicted the suspects because they acquired arms and ammunitions in 2014 without a licence from the minister of interior.

When the first suspect was held at Budai police station by patrols on March 8, 2014 after an arrest notice was issued by the prosecution against him for being charged with a terrorist case, he was searched and the police found a 22mm Italian pistol with a live shot inside it. The suspect confessed that he owns the weapon and ammunitions. He further stated that he got the weapon through the second and third suspects. The second suspect also confessed that he owns the weapon and that he received it from the third one.

The examination of arms report showed that the weapon is made in Italy, mondial mod 1900 cal.22 and that the seized ammunitions are used for it.
