Bahrain Mirror: Nabeel Kanoo announced on Thursday (January 12, 2017), that he resigned from him membership at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).

In a personal statement, Kanno said, "I inform you that I have submitted my resignation from the membership at Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to Head of the Chamber (...) Khalid Abdulrahman Almoayed. [My resignation] was due to my discontent with the current Chamber Board of Directors, which suffers lack of harmony, and division among some members."

He also added that among the reasons for his resignation, were "the interference of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Fatwa and Legislations Committee in the chamber's internal affairs. This represented a precedent in the history in the Chamber."

Moreover, he indicated that in the past, internal affairs were resolved in friendly ways without any need to resort to third parties. Kanoo further noted the Chamber's weak role in addressing the continued fees and taxes imposed on traders for almost a year now, while Chamber members are busy with internal divisions instead of defending the commercial sector.

Furthermore, Nabeel Kanoo said he realized "lack of transparency in many things, the weak role played by the executive branch, in addition to the monopolization of some posts."

"I assure you that I have not witnessed such an approach throughout my membership in two previous [Chamber membership] terms," Kanoo reasserted.
