Judge Stops One-Year Jail Sentence Issued against Woman until Her Husband Finishes Serving Same Sentence

Bahrain Mirror: The execution Judge Ibrahim Al-Zayed decided to stop the execution of a one-year jail sentence issued against a Bahraini woman convicted over hiding her nephew, who is convicted over political cases, until her husband finishes serving the same sentence over the same case.

The decision came after convicting the wife and husband of hiding convict sentenced to 10 years in prison over taking part in protests and accusing him of attacking police station.

The couple has 5 children and an infant baby, and the code of Criminal Procedures stipulates "If a man and his wife are sentenced to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year, even though for different crimes and have not been previously imprisoned, execution of the judgement against either may be postponed until the other is released where they care for a child who is not more than 15 full years of age and where they have a known residential address in the State of Bahrain."
