Appeals Court Upholds Life Sentence in Case linked to Shakhura Bomb

Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a life sentence against a defendant involved in planting and detonating a bomb.

The High Criminal Court had ruled a life sentence against 3 Bahrainis convicted of assembling and planting bombs in Shakhura, targeting security and police officers, and damaging two patrols.

The court imposed on the defendants to pay compensations for the damages, amounting to 3340.100 BD.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
