Bahrain Mirror: Brigadier General Ahmed Asiri, spokesperson of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, said on Sunday that Egypt offered to send about 40,000 soldiers to Yemen to participate with the coalition.

In an Interview with Alarabiya, Asiri said that "Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi offered Saudi Arabia and the coalition to send ground troops to Yemen."

"But at that time we were talking about around 30 to 40 thousand ground troops," the spokesman went on to say, referring to 2015 when the coalition was established and intervened in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia intervened in the Yemeni civil war in March 2015 in support of president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, after Houthis ousted him.

Government forces dominate the most Yemeni territories in the South and East, while Houthis seize control of most of the residential centres in the North West of the country, including the capital Sana'a.

It is to note that Egypt navy and air force are taking part in military intervention in Yemen.

More than 10 thousands people were killed by the air strikes launched by the coalition forces as well as ground clashes, which led Arab peninsula's poorest country to brink of starvation.
