MPs Object to Proposal Allowing Gov’t Employees to Apply for Commercial Registries

Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Bahraini Parliament objected during their exceptional session on Wednesday (May 3, 2017), the proposal to replace Article 4 of the Decree-Law on the Commercial Registry in its amended form. It grants the government employees right to apply for the registry in a way that is not inconsistent with their jobs.

The Civil Service Bureau pointed out that the proposed law contradicts with the Civil Service Law articles that prohibit some commercial work to public sector employees.

For its part, The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) believed that there is a possibility the trader would be harmed, especially those who can barely make a living through trade. It believed the amendment might double commercial registry rentals, and therefore harm the local economy, augment bulk employment.
