Bahrain Mirror: The percentage of traffic violations in Bahrain's major streets decreased by 75% in the period between December 2016 and April 2017, with expectations to decrease more in coming months, according to Director of Traffic Culture at the General Directorate of Traffic Services, Major Osama Mohammed Bahar.

Bahar believed that this is resulted by the increasing awareness of drivers and road users.

He also stated that most accidents happen on the street where speed ranges between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour, indicating that highest causes of accidents are mobile phones, followed by speed, and running traffic lights. Bahar asserted that "there cannot be any accident if there wasn't a violation that led to it."

Bahar's statement came at a press conference held Wednesday (May 10, 2017), organized by the Northern Governorate Municipality.

In recent months, the Traffic Directorate imposed highly expensive fines for weak reasons, causing anger and resentment among citizens.

Since 2015, Bahrain began imposing new taxes to increase state revenues, and lifted subsidies on many good and services after the sharp drop in oil prices.
