5-Year Jail Term, 5000 BD Fine to Defendant Accused of Fundraising Fadak TV Channel

Bahrain Mirror: Deputy attorney general Ahmed Al-Qurashi said that the high administrative court issued its sentence against a defendant in a case related to money laundering and fundraising for private aims without a license and publicly insulting a sect and a person considered an idol for it. The court sentenced the defendant to 5 years in prison, 5000 BD fine and ordered the confiscation of money and seized items.

The Public Prosecution had ordered to refer the defendant to the court after interrogating him. It was revealed in the trial that the man had raised the funds to finance two TV extremist channels (Fadak and Sawt Al-Itra) to finance a show that insults the companions of Prophet Mohammad.

Stamps, receipts and other evidences were found in the defendant's possession, in addition to other electronic devices which he confessed that he used to communicate with both channels and spread the abusive content.

Investigations also showed that the defendant had used several means to hide the source of the money he had collected and to send abroad anonymously.
