Bahrain Mirror- Exclusive: VICE News obtained an audio recording from Nabeel Rajab saying that "Praise to God, although I'm not feeling well physically and in pain as I've been in solitary confinement for a whole year, I assure you that I have very high morale because I believe in my cause and believe in the goal that we're struggling for."

Vice News website broadcast a video report about Rajab's life including the audio recording. The report mentioned that Rajab is held in solitary confinement and his health is in continuous deterioration. The video was first aired on June 15, 2017.

The website indicated that the uprising in Bahrain used to be inconvenient for the US because it has its biggest regional naval base there. Bahrain is also a large consumer of US arms and has spent approximately $1.5 billion on American weapons and equipment since 2000. Bahrain was a little bit hesitant about killing and imprisoning protestors, however, that all changed after president Trump met King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa promising a long-term relationship free of the strain caused by the Obama administration. The following day, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced the decision to lift the Obama-era human right conditions on arms sale.

The website also posted part of an interview its reporter had previously made with Rajab, adding that "Rajab's family and defense team felt that the authorities in Bahrain may have been hesitant before, but they now have the green light to go ahead and crush the opposition movement."

If convicted, Rajab might face up to 18 years in prison.
