Bahrain Mirror: The Inspector-General of the National Security Agency (NSA), Muhammad Al-Rumaihi, summoned on Thursday (24 August 2017) the husband of detained activist Ibtisam Al-Sayegh, who was subjected to torture and sexual harassment during her interrogation last May.

Al-Rumaihi said Al-Sayegh was accused in a terror case over charges that the authorities raised against her over her human rights activism, which they linked to the Bahrain-Qatar disputes.

Regarding Al-Sayegh's claims that she was subjected to torture and sexual assault, Al-Rumaihi said that "these actions, if true, are subject to strict accountability," warning that the Agency will take legal action against any allegations proven to be false.

"The Public Prosecutor's Office is the body responsible for investigation and whoever claims to have any evidence should submit them to it, instead of defaming and raising accusations through websites and social media outlets, which is considered a crime punishable by law pursuant to Articles 364 and 365 of the Penal Code, which stipulate a prison sentence and fine be issued if libel is directed at a state employee during or due to performance of his job," Al-Rumaihi added.
