Foreign Affairs Minister Calls to Freeze Qatar’s Membership in GCC

2017-10-30 - 8:33 p

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's foreign minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa called to suspending Qatar's Gulf Cooperation Council membership. This is first of its kind call made by a Gulf official.

"The correct step to preserve the GCC would be to freeze Qatar's membership until it sees reason and accepts the demands of our countries. If not, we will be fine with it leaving the GCC," Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said on Twitter.

He added that due to Qatar's policy that threatens our national peace, our country took an important step to boycott Qatar and besiege it until it comes to it senses. The minister indicated that Qatar's refusal to accept the Gulf demands proves it does not respect the GCC.

"If Qatar thinks that its current playing with time and evading will buy it time till the upcoming GCC summit, then it's mistaken. If the situation remained as it is we won't attend this summit," he further stated.

The minister stressed that Bahrain will not attend the upcoming GCC summit if Qatar does not change its stand. We are the most who suffered from Qatar's evil plans since it seceded as a separate entity from Bahrain decades ago.
