Countries Boycotting Qatar Deplore Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Report, Claim it Adopted Doha Narrative

Bahrain Mirror: The missions of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt in Geneva expressed their condemnation of the report prepared by the technical mission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on its visit to Qatar during the period between 17 and 24 November 2017, claiming that the OHCHR had sided with Qatar and adopted the Qatari narrative.

The missions of the four countries said in a joint statement that the report comprised a "systematic flaw that included a misleading description of the political crisis, leading to the conclusions and observations that were based on a limited understanding of the general context of the political crisis and its historical background. The main reason behind the crisis is Qatar's backing of individuals and entities internationally involved in the funding of terrorism, supporting terrorist activities and promoting their extremist ideology that incites violence and promotes hate speech in the Arab region, i.e. directly via Qatari media platforms or funds provided by Qatari figures."

The missions of the four states stressed that they do not accept the content and findings of the report, adding that it "included many unfounded allegations and accusations, also reflecting a clear bias towards one of the parties of the political crisis, by adopting the same Qatari narrative based on flimsy claims that the Qatari government seeks to promote regionally and globally."
