Minister of Foreign Affairs Signs Statute of Arab Court for Human Rights

Bahrain Mirror: Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa signed the minutes of the Statute of the Arab Court for Human Rights along with Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 149th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council at the Ministerial Level, being held in Cairo, Egypt.

The idea of an Arab court for human rights that was suggested by Bahrain and whose headquarters is expected to be in Manama was criticized by international human rights organization as well as Bahraini political and human rights parties, after it abolished the individual's rights to complaint. Meanwhile, Al-Wefaq, the largest opposition society in Bahrain said that idea of an Arab court for human rights was "born dead".

Activists see that Bahrain's aim behind suggesting the establishment of a human rights court came to ameliorate its human rights reputation after the violations it has committed since 2011 until now.
