Bahrain: Doctors Paid No More than 300 Dinars

Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini MP said that "there are Bahrainis who are graduates of the Arab Gulf University working in private hospitals for very low salaries, and the salaries of some may not even exceed 300 dinars."

MP Anas Buhandi said yesterday commenting on the Health Minister's response to a parliamentary question that the latter said the Ministry has a plan to replace foreigners with Bahrainis, noting that over the past five years the Ministry had adopted a strategy of hiring 30 Bahraini doctors in place of others every year.

"Unfortunately, we find that during this period there were foreigners who have been employed in public hospitals. I myself, during my visits to some public hospitals, found elderly doctors who were hired two or three years ago."

Bahrain has stepped up its dependence on foreigners in employment in government agencies since crushing protests that demanded putting an end to the Al Khalifa ruling family's monopoly over power during an uprising inspired by the Arab Spring 2011.
