Bahrain King to Open in Diraz the "Northern" City, Residents Banned from Approaching Area

2018-05-12 - 3:00 am

Bahrain Mirror: The northern city is due to witness an official opening ceremony on Tuesday (May 15, 2018) in the presence of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Reports indicated that the beneficiaries of the housing units were informed not to approach to the area and postpone any work in their units, and that the Royal Court has directed special invitations for some to attend.

The northern city is one of the country's four major housing cities, which the government announced 16 years ago.

An investigation by Bahrain Mirror revealed that large plots of land in the city had been confiscated and distributed as gifts by the King. The residential units in the city lie on the coast of Diraz, one of the main opposition areas in the country.

Security forces had cordoned off the house of the country's top religious leader, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, which is located in Diraz. He has been under house arrest for nearly a year.

In the same context, the Ministry of Education asked the parents of students at the Budaiya school to allow their children to participate in welcoming the King to the city.
