Bahrain Mirror: The Fourth High Criminal Court sentenced 6 suspects to life in prison over planting a bomb near Diraz park, detonating it and injuring two policemen.

The authorities claim that the first, second and third suspects planned, with the fourth, fifth and sixth suspects, to kill policemen in Diraz through targeting them with a locally-made bomb supplied by the sixth one nicknamed "Abu Karrar".

The suspects planted the bomb in Diraz park's fence and after they saw policemen approaching the bomb, they remotely detonated it and caused injuries to 2 of the security men.

The authorities reached the suspects through investigations. Meanwhile, they relied on charging the suspects and convicting them based on confessions extracted under torture.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
