Bahrain: 100 Domestic Workers Abused in 2017

Bahrain Mirror: Al-Ayyam local newspaper said that according to information it claimed were taken from an "informed" source, there are currently 16 cases filed in courts and the public prosecutor's office in particular concerning the exploitation of female domestic workers and other female workers in other fields, including seven cases that were seen by competent courts during the past period.
The newspaper pointed out that in most of these cases, the women were exploited in indecent work. The source said that the number of cases looked into by the courts are lower than the rates compared to other countries in the region.
More than 100 foreign women, mostly domestic workers, were sheltered by the Migrant Workers Protection Society in 2017, as they were assaulted, abused, or fell in the traps of human traffickers or signing contracts in a language they did not know.
