Airport Transportation Ministry Building Transferred to Building for Private Jet Passengers

2019-03-04 - 3:05 am

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Airport Company said that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications building at the airport will now be converted into a building for private jet passengers.

It explained that the building was previously set for travelers before the current building opened in December 1961 and expanded in December 1971 with the opening of new passenger facilities and new aircraft places that accommodate 4 Boeing 747 planes. Despite the new expansion of airport facilities, there was an urgent need to implement another expansion of the airport to accommodate the boom after the carriers wanted to use Bahrain International Airport at the same time and made their stops almost simultaneously. A new phase of airport expansion was completed in 1976, only five years after the opening of the new terminal.

Bahrain Airport witnessed an expansion in the 1980s and was completed in 1994 at a cost of $100 million to accommodate 10 million passengers annually. The airport is now undergoing a $1.1 billion upgrade (with Emirati support) to accommodate up to 14 million passengers a year.
