Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Public Prosecution in Bahrain announced, via its Twitter account, the release of a political prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment, "in consideration of his health condition".

The prisoner is Mohammad Abdullah Al-Aali (29), who was sentenced to life imprisonment, stripped of his citizenship and fined 200,000 dinars. He was arrested in September 2015, and was subjected to severe torture and electric shocks. After his imprisonment, he was also subjected to medical negligence.

After the spread of the Coronavirus, he contracted COVID-19 and was admitted to the military hospital. His father kept searching and asking about him in all hospitals because the prison administration refused to provide him with any information. Human rights activist Ibtisam Al-Sayegh posted an audio recording of the inmate's mother, calling on the competent authorities to inform her about the fate and whereabouts of her son.

After his 20-day stay in the military hospital, Al-Aali was transferred to the Salmaniya Hospital, and his health condition seemed to be very serious. The prisoner's family was told to come visit him, and when they came to visit, they were told that their young son was suffering from lung cancer.

Today, the Public Prosecution announced that Mohammad Abdullah Al-Aali was released due to his health condition.

Al-Aali is not the first prisoner to be exposed to this incurable disease. Others preceded him. Former prisoner, Hamid Khatam, died during his treatment for this disease, and Ali Qambar is still being treated for the disease, as well as former inmate Elias Al-Mulla, who is still suffering in his journey through treatment.
