Bahrain Mirror: Prominent rights activist Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja resumed his hunger strike on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, after Jaw prison authorities did not allow him to get to a scheduled medical appointment, Reuters reported.

The authorities have repeatedly rejected calls by several countries and human rights organizations to release Al-Khawaja, who is a dual Bahraini-Danish citizen, and suffers from several heart diseases.

Al-Khawaja was arrested in 2011 after taking part in peaceful protests demanding reform of the system of government and democracy. He is subjected to violations of his rights in Jaw Prison and systematic denial of medical treatment.

It is to mention that Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja's daughter, Maryam Al-Khawaja, is planning to return to Bahrain this week to draw attention to her father's situation, although she is risking her own freedom by heading to Bahrain herself, where she faces arrest, especially since the authorities arrested her on her last visit in 2014 and then released her after a month due to international pressure.
