Bahrain Mirror: A cable signed by the former Saudi Minister of Foreign affairs, Saud Al-Faisal, disclosed his request to the former British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, to interfere in order to lift the arms embargo imposed by his country on Bahrain.

The cable published by the WikiLeaks website, among nearly half a million documents entitled "Saudi Cables", stated that "the Kingdom of Bahrain has been recently facing a number of challenges and hostile actions triggered by incitement by neighboring regional powers that have transgressing the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bahrain and interfering in its internal affairs on their agendas, which, as a result, affects Bahrain's national security and the security and safety of the Gulf Cooperation Council states."

The cable further stated that "this demands that Bahrain strengthens its defense and security capabilities by purchasing some arms that enable it to defend itself, safeguard its territory and protect its political system and people's interests. However, some competent parties in friendly states have imposed a ban on arms exports to it."

"The GCC are looking forward to the efforts you exert to lift the arms embargo imposed by competent parties in the United Kingdom on the Kingdom of Bahrain," further read the cable signed by Saud Al-Faisal, in his capacity as a minister of the GCC Ministerial Council.
