Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahraini authorities released on Monday (July 27, 2015) the president of the consultative (Shura) council of Bahrain's main opposition group Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society and the former Member of Bahraini Parliament, Sayed Jameel Kadhem, after spending six months in prison over a Tweet.

A Bahraini court sentenced Jameel Kadhem (January 13, 2015) to 6 months in prison and a fine of 500 Bahrain dinars which is the maximum sentence that could be brought against someone over a tweet (with the exception of the charge of insulting the King). A day after the sentence was issued, security forces dressed in civilian clothing surrounded Al-Wefaq's office building in order to arrest Kadhem. He was directly transferred to the Dry Dock Prison.

On February 1, 2015, the court of appeals decided to release Kadhem and adjourned sentencing him to February 15, 2015, where it upheld a six-month prison sentence and a fine of 500 BD issued by a first level court. Thus, Kadhem was directly arrested after the hearing and imprisoned.

According to lawyer Abdullah Al-Shamlawi, the authorities summoned those in charge of a organizing a ceremony today (Monday, July 27, 2015) to welcome Kadhem in his hometown in Bahrain's Bilad Al-Qadeem.
