Bahrain Mirror: The security guards of official schools in Bahrain said that the Ministry of Education hasn't offered many of them incentive bonuses and financial rewards since 13 years ago, and that many of those who are offered these incentives are "close" to the administration and don't meet the criteria.

They also pointed out that although some guards have academic qualifications and meet the criteria to apply for receiving annual bonuses and incentives, the ministry "excludes" them every year.

The Ministry of Education commented on this issue and said: "These statements are baseless. The system of incentives and bonuses applies to all the ministry's employees, including security guards, who are offered bonuses and incentives annually according to the terms and standards specified by the civil service bureau."

According to the Al-Wasat Newspaper, the school security guards called on the Ministry of Education to look into this matter and be accurate about offering these incentives to those who deserve it most, let alone put an objective and transparent mechanism that organizes this process.

The guards also demanded that their status be improved, especially those who have college degrees, as "the salaries of many of the guards with college degrees are still registered as being based on high school degrees since years now."

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Education stated that the number of incentives it offered last year (2014) reached 4312 which were given to employees affiliated to the ministry in different sectors, adding that more than 50% of these incentives were granted to the employees of educational institutions. The number of employees of educational institutions who benefited from these incentives reached 2738, it further said.
