Bahraini Royal Court Calls on Former Minister “Al-Baharna” to Cancel Seminar on Bahrain’s Independence

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Various reports stated that the Bahraini Royal Court called on the former Minister of State for Legal Affairs, Husain Al-Baharna, to cancel a seminar, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday (August 16, 2015) at the headquarters of the Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, on Bahrain's independence and the political developments that accompanied it.

Al-Baharna, who played a role in managing the fact-finding process at that time, was supposed to unveil important information and details about Bahrain's Independence and the different stances of the parties with regards to the British presence and Bahrain's independence from Iran.

The ruling family does not celebrate Independence Day. Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has reiterated his father's statements to British officials two years ago, expressing his rejection of the British withdrawal from the country.

The ruling family considers that talking about Bahrain's independence affects its legitimacy, for it came as a result of efforts led by a national movement that opposed the British presence and the Al-Khalifa family's monopoly of power.

The National Security Service has addressed Al-Baharna in 2005 regarding an article inciting hatred against the regime, published in a magazine issued in the United States and Europe in his name. Al-Bahrana; however, denied any link to the article.
