Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazza, said the unit had appealed a verdict issued by the High Criminal Court on September 2, 2015 that acquitted five policemen accused of beating a suspect in order to extract a confession.

According to the details of the case, the SIU received a complaint from the Public Prosecution that a detainee held for possessing and selling drugs was injured during his arrest and interrogation. The SIU launched an investigation into the incident and questioned the victim, who said that he had been beaten by the policemen in order to make him confess to the crime he was arrested for.

The forensic medical report showed that the victim sustained injuries that were consistent with his account. Following the investigations, the SIU referred the five policemen, including a lieutenant, to the High Criminal Court which issued its ruling acquitting them of the charges.

The SIU appealed the verdict which will be looked into by the High Criminal Court of Appeals on December 10, 2015.
