Five-Year Prison Term Handed Down to Suspect over Assembly & Assault on Policeman

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Fourth High Criminal Court, presided over Judge Ali Al-Dhahrani with the membership of Mohammad Awad and Wael Ibrahim and Ahmad Al-Sulaiman as secretariat, sentenced a young Bahraini (25 years old) to 5 years in prison over assaulting a policeman, joining an assembly and having possession of Molotov cocktails.

The mentioned court sentenced the suspect to 5 years in prison, in absentia, during its hearing on February 19, 2015. The suspect ojected the sentence which upheld the previous sentence.

Bahrain's Public Prosecution said that the defendant on August 19, 2014 assaulted, with unknown suspects, a member of the security forces while and because he was performing his duty for a terrorist purpose, thus he was injured for a period not exceeding 20 days.

It is noteworthy that Bahrain's Fourth High Criminal Court was created on July 2013 to accommodate the huge number of cases against protesters and activists, and speed up issuing the strict sentences under the Terrorism Act.
