Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Fourth High Criminal Court, presided over judge Ali bin Khalifa Al-Dhahrani with the membership of Osama Al-Shadhili and Wael Ibrahim and Ahmad Sulaiman as secretariat, sentenced two suspects to 15 years in prison over charges of detonating a bomb in Saar and possession of explosives. The court also fined both defendants a joint amount of 2288 Bahraini dinars for the damages caused to the vehicles owned by the Ministry of Interior.

The authorities claimed that on (February 23, 2014) the two suspects agreed along with two unknown others to make a homemade bomb; a fire extinguisher packed with explosive materials to be detonated remotely by a mobile phone. The suspects agreed to plant the bomb in a place where police forces are heavily deployed on the 35th Street in Saar.  

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the defendants, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
