Bahrain Mirror: The Chief of Bahrain's Terrorist Crimes Prosecution, Attorney-General Ahmad Al-Hammadi, stated that the Fourth High Criminal court sentenced on Monday (June 27, 2016) 2 defendants over charges of taking part in terrorist group, bombin and setting fire for a terrorist aim. The court sentenced the first suspect to 10 years in prison and the second one to 3 years, revoked their citizenships and ordered the confiscation of seized items.

The authorities claim that on January 22, 2016, the directorate of Northern Governorate received a notice that fire and explosion took place in Al-Qidam. As a result, security investigations were launched and it was revealed that a "terrorist" group, Al-Wafa'a Islamic Party, has committed them. The first suspect was arrested and an arrest warrant was issued against the other.

The prosecution alleges that it relied on the evidence in the testimonies of the witnesses and confessions of the suspects as well as the medical and technical reports.Consequently, the suspects were referred to the fourth criminal court and an arrest warrant was issued against the fugitive.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
