Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini High Court of Appeals upheld a first degree verdict issued against an appellant over burning a tent owned by a parliamentary election candidate.

The first high criminal court had sentenced 2 defendants to 5 years in prison over burning a tent owned by a parliamentary election candidate and convicted them because on (October 26, 2014) they deliberately set fire endangering people's lives and money, damaged the movables owned by the victim and acquired Molotov cocktails.

The defendants agreed to burn two tents for the candidate, prepared Molotov and headed to scene to carry out their plan.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
