Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini Appeal Court upheld a first degree verdict sentencing an appellant (23 years) to 5-year prison term over attacking a policeman and crashing police patrol vehicle, fining him 250 BD for the Ministry of Interior.

The Public Prosecution accused the suspect of attacking the bodily integrity of a policeman and deliberately destroying a vehicle owned by the Ministry of Interior.

The authorities claim that they received a notice from the injured policeman stating that while he was performing his duty in Diraz with 4 patrols to monitor Al-Budai street and counter riots, he was surprised to see a car blocking their path. He asked the driver to stop, the latter; however, refused to respond and tried to flee. The patrol vehicle cut him off, so he crashed it. He unmounted the car and fled. The police chased him and while arresting him, he resisted the policeman, injuring him.

The authorities claim that the suspect confessed that he attempted to run away, crashed the police patrol vehicle and resisted the security men while arresting him. He, however, justified saying that he has a sports car that emits annoying sounds and when the policemen asked him to stop, he felt afraid and tried to run away.
