Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Appeals Court, presided over by Judge Ibrahim al-Zayed, and with the Secretariat under Yousef Bu Hardan, adjourned today (November 6, 2016) the first appeal hearing in the case of al-Wefaq Secretary General, Sheikh Ali Salman. The date assigned to issue a verdict on this case was December 4, 2016.

This comes after the Court of Cassation overruled last October 17, the prison verdict issued against dissolved al-Wefaq Society's Secretary General, Sheikh Ali Salman, and returned the case to the Appeals Court.

Sheikh Ali Salman was arrested on December 28, 2018, after giving his testimony at the Directorate General of Criminal Investigations. On June 16, 2015, the High Criminal Court ruled that Sheikh Ali Salman was innocent of all charges accusing him of planning to topple the regime by force. However, the court convicted him, and issued a 2-year imprisonment sentence against him for charges of inciting hatred against a sect, and insulting the Ministry of Interior. The court also sentenced him to additional 2 years in prison for charges of breaking the law.

On May 30, 2016, the Supreme Appeals Court, presided over by member of the royal family, Mohammad bin Ali Al Khalifa, increased the imprisonment sentence issued against a-Wefaq Secretary General, from 4 years in prison to 9 years.
