Bahrain Mirror: Bahraini rights activist Sayed Ahmed AlWadaei said that security authorities in "Jaw" Central Prison phones this morning (Saturday January 14, 2017) the families of 3 death row detainees and asked them to be present at the prison premises. The detainees were accused of a blast claimed that lives of an Emirati officer and two Pakistani policemen.

According to AlWadaei, the call came from the Legal Affairs Department at "Jaw" Central Prison, indicating that the Interior Ministry is under a state of security alert.

Activists dear these procedures would be followed by the implementation of death sentences upheld by the Court of Cassation a few days ago; a ruled verdict that cannot be appealed.

On January 9, 2017, the Court of Cassation upheld the death sentences of Abbas al-Samea, Sami Mushaima, and Ali al-Singace, accused of Al-Daih blast that killed an Emirati officer and two policemen.

According to Bahraini laws, any upheld death sentence, which no longer becomes subject to appeal, shall not be executed before the approval of Bahrain King, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The laws do not specify any time period for the king to approve the death sentences' implementation.

Bahraini authorities have not implemented any death sentences in political cases since the execution of martyr Isa Qambar in March 1996. It has however implemented death sentences in criminal cases, such as murder.

According to Amnesty International, Bahrain has not executed any death sentences since 2010.
