National Institute for Human Rights Says it Received 150 Complaints in 2016

Bahrain Mirror: The complaints, monitoring and follow-up committee at Bahrain's National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) convened in presence of committee head Ms. Maria Antoine Elias Khoury, members Dr. Hameed Ahmed Husain, and Dr. Mona Mohamed Hejres. During their meeting, the members discussed the complaints received by the committee during the period between its last meeting (December 21, 2016) and January 14, 2017. The number of complaints were 11, for which the committee adopted the best procedures. The committee also received 13 requests for legal aid and advice.

According to local newspapers and social media platforms, the committee monitored the complaints related to the care of individuals with disabilities, and decent standards for their livelihood. Procedures are underway to verify these complaints are in right place.

Moreover, the committee clarified that during 2016, it received 150 complaints, and they were distributed according to the procedures with respect to each case of complaint.
