After Annulling Training Decrees: Numbers of Trainees Decline from 22,000 in 2015 to Only 2,200 in 2016

Bahrain Mirror: Statistics released by the Bahraini Labour Ministry showed that the numbers of Bahraini trainees, including paid employees and job seekers, decreased drastically from 21,914 in 2015 to 2,241 in 2016, and amount to 285 since onset of 2017 to date.

This comes after the Bahraini government annulled training decrees imposed on companies since 1979, as enterprises were obligated to make their Bahraini employees engage in professional training sessions annually.

This Government decision led to the deterioration of the training sector, resulting in the shutdown of a number of training institutes, since the main source of their funding was cut off. Voluntary enrollment in training programs also declined with the slump in the local market and deteriorating economy.
In response to an MP's question, the Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan said that the total number of trainees in various ministry programs and high vocational training council programs (which was dissolved last year) reached 15,500 in 2011, 16,209 in 2012, 17,852 in 2013, and 18,169 in 2014.
