Bahrain: Angry Protests Burst after MoI, Gov’t Media Published Photos of Detained Bahraini Women

Bahrain Mirror: The streets of Bahrain witnessed today (Thursday February 23, 2017) angry protests against the Ministry of Interior and government media outlets publishing photos for 4 Bahraini women accused by the authorities of joining terrorist cells.

Protesters held banners reading slogans in support of the detainee women, and against the Al Khalifa family, calling them "the family of terrorism".

The MoI had published photos for Hameeda al-Khour, Mona Habeeb, Faten Hussein, Munira al-Qashami, whom the ministry accused of hiding relatives who are fugitive opposition activists.

Religious scholars in Bahrain had issued a statement considering publishing the photos of the detained Bahraini women, "adds fuel to fire". They indicated that this represented a "deliberate violation of customs, norms, and social values."

Angry protesters clashed with security forces in various area, while forces fired shotguns and teargas canisters at protesters in Abu Saiba west of the capital Manama, to which demonstrators responded with hurling rocks at them.
