Government Rejects Parliamentary Proposals to Compensate Local Butchers for Lifting Subsidies

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini government rejected two proposals made by the parliament, which are aimed at compensating local butchers who suffered losses as a result of the decision to lift meat subsidies, made in late 2015.

However, the government in its response considered that the profession of Butchers is commercial. It said that they are traders, and if they are compensated because of the economic changes or amendments of governmental subsidy plans, traders of other professions will demand the same.

The government also stated that the proposal didn't specify the type, amount, cost or period of the compensations, adding that it's difficult to determine the financial burdens it may create on the State's budget, especially during the current tough financial situations.
