Appeals Court: Sentences Ranging between 2&15 Years in Prison against 12 Defendants Accused of Attacking Sitra Police Station

Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Appeals Court presided over by judge Mohammad bin Ali Al Khalifa and Abdullah Mohammad as secretariat upheld the verdict issued against 7 appellants and commuted that of other 5 over attacking Sitra police station.

The court upheld 15-year jail term against an appellant, 7-year jail term against 3 and 3-year jail term against other 3. Meanwhile, the court commuted the 15-year jail term of an appellant to 10 years and the 7-year jail term of another appellant to 5 years. The court also sentenced two appellants to 2 years in prison instead of 3.

The high criminal court had issued sentences against 14 suspects accused of acquiring firearms and ammunitions and attacking policemen in Sitra using Molotov. 2 of the suspects received 15-year jail term, 7 of them received 7-year jail term and the rest 5 were sentenced to 3 years in prison. The court also ordered the confiscation of seized items.

The Public Prosecution brought several charges against the defendants. It accused the first and second suspects of acquiring, along with other unknowns, explosives, in 2014 and 2015, without a license from the competent party and acquiring firearms and ammunitions without a license, aiming at using them to disrupt public peace, for a terrorist aim.

The prosecution accused all the suspects of deliberately putting, along with other unknowns, fire to movables that would put people's lives and money to danger, for a terrorist aim, taking part in an assembly of more than 5 persons in a public place and acquiring Molotov.
